This performance combines poetry, ethnic music and folklore in an energetic performance. At the core of the program, is Tsippi Fleischer's music, featuring a song cycle based on the surrealist poetry of Lebanese and Syria authors. Ms. Fleischer is a scholar of Mideastern Studies, and fell in love with this poetry, which she decided to set to music. Girl Butterfly Girl has been played in numerous versions all over the world for four decades and Ofer Shelley has rescored it for baritone and a trio.
Other pieces include the Trio on popular Irish Melodies Frank Martin, The Girl with the Flaxen Hair Claude Debussy, and Trio on Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" by Alonis Berghs
The program concludes with "girl butterfly girl - New Soaring" by Fleischer, commissioned by the Atar Trio. She has taken elements of Girl Butterfly Girl to create this piece for piano trio and vocals. In it, Fleischer offers a bird's eye view of the path that she has taken in developing her musical language. She also features the virtuosic skills of the trio members, as well as including singing (!) parts in Spanish, German and French and more
We also offer an optional extension of this experience: an original video made by the interdisciplinary artist Dorit Feldman and inspired by the first song of the cycle "Piece of Earth.” This can be played to welcome the audience.
